Kenn's Gnome

Here's a different take on a Gnome. Maybe a more modern Gnome he is. Anyway you look at him, he's still a winner. This little fellow was carved by Kenn (Old Codger) from the Woodcarving Illustrated Forum.

Alex's Gnome!

Here's a little Gnome, hand carved by Alex Swope, PA. This little fellow is 2 1/2 inches tall, including the hat. Thank you Alex! He's a fine little fellow.

Whittlin Santa' & Gnomes

I eat my breakfast at a small diner in town. Been doin it forever. 48 years ago bride said she didn't do breakfast. While at the diner I sit and whittle. I whittle small Santa pins/ornaments, and gnomes.

One of the newer fellows that was in the diner this morning saw me whittlin a Santa pin. I heard him ask, "are Santa's the only he carves"? Some one else answered, "no he carves gnomes too".

Long Time No See!

Been busy, busy, busy. Vacation, work, play, vacation. Mow, mow, mow. Weed, weed, weed.
Carve, carve, carve....Without my carving glove. Bleed, bleed, bleed. Stitch, stitch, stitch, stitch, stitch, stitch. Read book, read book, read book. No carving of the Gnome! Soon to resume.

Carved Wood Quilt

The previous posting about a wood quilt square Gnome, mentioned a wood quilt. This is the type of a wood quilt that I was referring to. Each of the squares measures 5" x 5" x 1/2 inch thick. Once the wood squares are carved, they are assembled with a lattice and framed. Our carving group at the senior center regularly makes these for display and to raffle off for the center. I failed to get a photo of the "quilt" with the Gnome that I carved. Which is really stupid because I am the one that makes the frame and assembles the individual squares.

Wood Quilt Square - Gnome

Gnome On A Frame

Since I like to whittle and quilt, I can combine the two. The framed log cabin pattern quilt square matted and framed in old wood. The old wood frame includes a Gnome sitting on a log.

Arts Festival

This weekend is a very good arts festival in town. There will be 170 "artists" set up. This is a juried event so most of the participants will have very nice items to sell. I have done this festival for four years now. This year I am introducing my Gnomes. In preparation for this festival I have been whittling my fingers to the bone. That's just a figure of speech, not to be taken literally. I have three sizes of Gnomes, 1 inch, 2 inch, and 3 inch. Along with each sale will be the instructions to place your Gnome into scenes and send in a photo. I'll preview and select photos to post on this site.
In addition to the Gnomes I'll have Noah's Arks, Santa tree ornaments, Santa pins, and whittlings for kids.

Gnome With Mushrooms

Gnomes are generally associated with mushrooms. I guess it's because Gnomes appreciate a good butter fried mushroom for dinner.

Combination Gnome!

Rather than Paint all my Gnomes, some times they get a combination of stain and paint, as illustrated by this little 3 inch one. Not much detail on this little fella.

Harley Gnome

This 3 1/2 inch Gnome was given as a prize in a drawing on one of my other blogs. As you can see Gnomes are very adaptable.
